Al-Sunnah Mosque Manchester – Safer Centre

Assalamualaikum – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon you

At Al-Sunnah Mosque, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for everyone in our community. In light of this commitment, we have undertaken a series of initiatives to safeguard our Masjid users, ensuring that Al-Sunnah Mosque not only provides spiritual guidance but also prioritises the safety and well-being of all who enter its doors.

With the invaluable support of Strengthening Faith Institutions (SFI)—a national organisation dedicated to aiding faith-based institutions in their growth and development—and Manchester Council, we have been able to progress significantly towards our safety goals. This partnership has empowered us to establish a strong foundation of security and care, making our mosque a recognised safe space for the entire community.

Our Actions Towards Becoming a Certified Safer Centre

We have implemented a range of key initiatives, all designed to enhance the safety and inclusiveness of Al-Sunnah Mosque. These efforts include:

  • Policy Development
We have crafted clear and effective policies that provide guidelines for the safety, conduct, and welfare of everyone within our Masjid. These policies outline our commitment to creating a safe environment and ensure that all practices align with national safety standards.

  • DBS Compliance
We recognise the importance of trust and accountability, especially when it comes to working with young people and vulnerable members of our community. Therefore, all individuals in relevant roles are subject to DBS checks, ensuring that those who serve within the Masjid have been thoroughly vetted and cleared.

  • Health, Safety, and Fire Safety Training
To prepare our team for a wide range of potential scenarios, we have invested in comprehensive training on health and fire safety. This training ensures that everyone involved is equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond promptly and effectively in emergencies, protecting our community members and safeguarding our premises.

  • Risk Assessments
We have conducted thorough risk assessments to identify any potential hazards and to address them proactively. These assessments cover all areas of the mosque, from prayer halls and classrooms to communal spaces, ensuring that every part of the mosque is safe and accessible for all visitors.

  • Safeguarding Training
Understanding the importance of safeguarding our community members, we have provided training focused on recognising and responding to signs of abuse or harm. This training empowers our staff and volunteers to create a supportive environment for all, especially the young and vulnerable, and to take appropriate action whenever concerns arise.

Celebrating Our Progress

In recognition of the efforts and dedication of our team, we recently held an event celebrating Al-Sunnah Mosque’s achievements in becoming a certified Safer Centre. This occasion marked an important milestone, showcasing our journey towards establishing a secure and nurturing environment for all community members. The following photos capture the spirit of our celebration and highlight the commitment of everyone involved in making Al-Sunnah Mosque a safer, more welcoming space.

We are grateful to our partners and supporters for their invaluable assistance and to our community members who inspire us to continue striving for excellence in service, safety, and care. Insha’Allah, we will continue to build on these efforts, ensuring that Al-Sunnah Mosque remains a beacon of peace, safety, and support for all.

Thank you for being part of our journey towards a safer community. May Allah bless and protect us all.
